Oak wardrobes for 17th Century House

Bournes Fine Furniture was asked to design bespoke oak wardrobes for a 17th century farmhouse near Guildford in Surrey.  Being true to the period we styled the wardrobes with raised and fielded panels, finished them with a jacobean dark oak stain and hand waxed in black to create age.  Solid brass antique hinges and knobs were added to the finished piece.  The central section of the wardrobe had a series of pull out drawers similar in style to a tailors closet to offer maximum storeage and either side we arranged full and short hanging with shelves above and below.  These wardrobes fitted perfectly in the oldest part of the house and offered a modern functionality with no loss of period style.

  • Ian installed our wall unit in April 2010 having designed it with us. We are delighted with the outcome it was exactly what we expected since Ian had been meticulous in handling every aspect of our project. The result is our wonderful unit, which has been admired by many of our family and friends. It now houses many of our treasured possessions. It is a measure of our complete satisfaction that we have asked Ian to make a dining table and bedside cabinets for us. Ian is a highly skilled craftsman who is only satisfied when a perfect work of art achieves the full satisfaction of his clients. We recommend him without reserve.
